On February 5th 2001 The Air Training
Corps celebrated its 60th Anniversary. The Central and East Yorkshire Wing marked
this significant occasion with a service in York Minster on February 4th. Sadly the weather on the day was
atrocious leading to the cancellation of the planned march through the streets of York
prior to the service. The service in the Minster was a spectacular occasion attended by nearly 500 cadets, plus adult staff, families and friends. Allen,
as Deputy Wing Chaplain, took part in the leading of the service whilst cadets from his squadron, 872(Hull West), were
privileged to lead the
intercessions.
Stadiumchurch.com salutes the Air Training Corps on this significant occasion.

The Air Cadets and Sea Cadets come to St Matthew’s Church on two special occasions each year. In June they join our congregation for the annual Gift Day service which is followed by a March Past. Some years we follow this with a marathon sporting extravaganza in the Parish Hall. Six different sporting disciplines (5 Aside, Badminton, Darts, Pool, Table Tennis & Tug o’War!) with the St Matthew Sporting Challenge Trophies up for grabs. The trophies are presented by players from either Hull City AFC or Hull FC. They return in December for the Hull & District Cadet’s Carol Service. Cadets from other local units will join them for this occasion which is usually attended by the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull. The cadets then move on for a joint pre-Christmas disco evening at T.S. Iron Duke. |
