St Barnabas
History and Archive

St.Barnabas, the fishermans church, was opened in 1874. The church was located on the corner of Hessle Road and South Boulevard. After a long history of faithful ministry to the fisherman families of Hessle Road, the church was closed and demolished in 1980. The congregation then joined their neighbours at St.Matthews on the Anlaby Road junction with The Boulevard. A number of items, like the choir stalls, pulpit and altar came with them and are now much loved features of St.Matthew's Church.
